Thomas Frederick Rawlings (1861 – 3 September 1933)

Thomas was the son of Charles (1830-1916) and Phoebe (née Hunt) (1829-1914). His father was a millwright and he grew up at 5 Elm Street. He trained as a whitesmith and in 1881 was lodging with his sister Ellen and brother in law William Melton at 35 Covent Garden. Thomas married Alice Game (1864-1932) in 1884 and they had eleven children: Harry William (1890-), Beatrice Alice (1891-1984), Arthur Thomas (1893-1921), Ernest Edward (1896-1967), Frederick  Charles (1902-1979) and a further six children who died as infants. the family lived at 37 East Road (1891), 27 Norfolk Terrace (at least 1901 onwards). In 1891 he was documented as a whitesmith, as a cycle builder in 1901 and as an automotive fitter in 1911. Thomas died at home and his funeral took place on 6 September.

William Charles Rawlings (1869 – 13 April 1935)

William was Thomas’ younger brother and worked as a fishmongers assistant. In 1891 he was living with his parents and sister Jane at 69 East Road, and the four of them were living at 3 Milford Street in 1901 and 1911. By 1911 he was working as a general labourer and died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 65 years old. At the time he was still living at 3 Milford Street.

Alice Mary Rawlings (1865 – 25 June 1939)

In 1891 Alice was working as a charwoman and in 1911 was living at 2 St. Eligius almshouses where she was companion to Ellen Freeman. She lived with her brother William at Milford Street from at least 1931 onwards and died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
