Phillip Dauncey (Cecil) Rhodes (1887 – 15 July 1931)

Cecil was born in Thornborough,two miles east of Buckingham. He was the son of butcher Philip and Louisa (née King) and also worked as a butcher. In 1901 he was living in Northampton and married Emily Lines on 11 November 1907 in Suffolk. The couple had at least two sons: Cecil Philip (1910-1992) and Dick (1923-1991).  Cecil worked as a journeyman butcher and the family lived in Chelmsford (1911) and Bedford (at least 1918-1927). Cecil died in Cambridge, but it is not known what had brought the family to the town.

Emily Ann Rhodes (née Lines) (26 October 1886 – 30 Septembr 1970)

Bull Hotel, Farningham, Kent

Emily was born in Farmingham, near Swanley, Kent and was the daughter of James and Emily Ann (née Powell). She grew up at the Bull Hotel which her father ran, but by 1901 the family had moved to Luton where he ran a pub on New Bedford Road.

After she was widowed Emily lived at 14a Market Passage with son Cecil until at least 1936 but then moved to  Luton where she ran a shop (1939).   By at least 1949 she had moved back to Cambridge and lived at 89 Rhadegund Road until her death in 1970.

Phillip Dauncey Rhodes (2 December 1933 – 26 October 1941)

Phillip was the eldest child of Cecil and Gwendoline (née Driver) (1914-2006).  He was born in Cambridge and in 1939 was living at the Three Jolly Butchers in St. Ives where his father was the landlord.  He died in St. Ives aged 8 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery.
