Charles Rose (1862 – 24 September 1926)

Charles was the son of William and Rachel (née Jeffrey) and was born in Great Shelford. He was baptised on 22 February 1863 and grew up with his widowed mother who worked as a charwoman. By the age of 18 he was living on the High Street in Great Shelford with Rachel and working as a bricklayers labourer.  Charles married Alice Waller (1867-1950) in 1884 and they had nine children: Annie (1885-1972), Harry (1887-1981), Ralph Harradine (1889-1968), Beatrice (1892-), Eva M (1894-), Cyril Charles (1896-1974), Doris Gwendoline (1899-1978), Ivor Stanley (1904-) and Joan Marguerite (1908-1988).

Charles worked as a railway signalman for Great Eastern Railway (G.E.R.) and they lived at 5 Black Horse Lane, Swavesey until at least 1896 before moving to live at 29 Ainsworth Street (c.1899-at least 1901) and then Sedgwick Street (1911 onwards). Charles died aged 64 years old.

Alice Rose was still living at Sedgwick Street in 1939, but is thought to have died in Portsmouth in 1950.
