Sarah Jane Ruse (née Smart) (c.1866 – 1 March 1932)
Sarah was the daughter of John and Amelia Smart. She was born in Laycock in Wiltshire and baptised there on 25th March 1866. John Smart was a chairmaker in Laycock. Aged 15 she was a companion to her 81 year old Aunt. In the census of 1891 she was visiting cousins in Sculcoates in Yorkshire.
Aged 40, she married Octavius Ruse in Wiltshire on 26th February 1906. They lived in Cambridge at 5 Oswald Terrace on Sturton Street where Octavius was a harness maker. She died in Cambridge in 1932 and did not have any children.
Octavius Walter Ruse (4 April 1879 – 8 December 1962)
Octavius was the son of Henry and Annie Ruse. He was born in West Wratting in Cambridgeshire, where his father was a master harness maker employing two men (1881). He moved to Cambridge in 1901 and was living with his brother Frank and his family at 71 Kingston Street in that year. He married aged 26 years old.
After being widowed he married for a second time to widow Ellen King (née Ison) (1880-1972) and the couple lived at 2 Clarendon Street, whilst Octavius had a shop at 11 Norfolk Street. In the 1939 census he is described as a saddler. He died at Chesterton Hospital aged 83 years old, but his home was at 2 Clarendon Street at the time. He was buried with his first wife Sarah Jane.
