This cross, located in the parish area of St Mary the Less, stands in the south of the centre circle close to the path. Although the cross leans to the south it is still stable and the carved decoration of ivy leaves is intact. The inscription of metal letters has suffered some erosion but is still legible.

Forever in the Lord
In Ever Loving Memory of MARY ANN
The dearly loved wife of HENRY SANDERS
Who died Dec 23rd 1892 aged 41 years

Mary Ann Sanders (née Speechly) (1851 – 23 December 1892)

Mary was born in Horningsea, a village between Cambridge and Waterbeach and is believed to have been the daughter of  John and Emma Speechly.  She married Henry Sanders (1843-1922) and they had at least two children: Emily Rose (1876-1955) and Henry George (1883-1887).

In December 1878 Henry Sanders bought a livery stable business from William Curwain, and the family moved to live at 39 Trumpington Street (later renumbered to 2 Trumpington Street). Mary died at Trumpington Street aged 41 years old.

A Henry Sanders died who died in 1922 is also buried in this parish probably here
