Martha Alix Scarr [nee Reynolds] (c.1846 – 3 March 1924)

Martha appears on census documents as both Martha Alix and Martha Alice, but was baptised Martha Alice.  She was born in Huntingdon, and baptised at St Mary’s and St Benedict’s Church in the town on 5th July 1846.  She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Reynolds, and her father worked as a butler.

She married William Ivatt Scarr on 26th September 1867 at St Paul’s Church.  They had nine children together: Ada Ellen [1869-1915], Charlotte Annie [1870-1960], William [1874-1951], Arthur Ernest [1876-1952], Edith Mary [1879-1966], Herbert Charles [1879-1952], Martha Lilian [1880-1956], Florence Lucy [1882-1958] and the infant boy buried here, Charles Frank (1885)

William worked as a cabinet maker, and the family lived at 11 Victoria Street [1871], 2 Mill Street [1881] and then 14 Covent Garden [1891/1901].  By 1911 the family were living at 79 Glisson Road, and the family lived there for the next 47 years. Martha died at Glisson Road in 1924 aged 78 years old.

William Ivatt Scarr (c.1845 – 14 May 1929)

William was born in Cambridge, and was the son of Samuel & Hannah Scarr. Samuel was a barber. William was brought up in Coronation St and at age 16 was a French polisher but  appears to have worked as a cabinet maker for most of his life.  He was active on the borough council. He died at 79 Glisson Road and left an estate valued at £1,025 10s and 8d.
