Hannah Scott (1854 – 15 January 1927)
Hannah was born in Hill Beck, Westmorland and is believed to have been the daughter of Samuel and Sarah (née Dalton). Samuel farmed 420 acres at Bindloss Farm in Casterton, near Kirkby Lonsdale. She married draper John Wesley Scott (1857-1941) in Penrith in 1887 and they had one daughter: Florence Sarah (1888-1968). In 1891 the family were living at 6 Wordsworth Terrace, but the marriage appears to have broken down. John had been born in Iowa, but had returned to Penrith to live with his paternal uncle Thomas Scott who was a draper in the town. After the breakdown of his marriage to Hannah he returned to the USA and died in San Francisco in January 1941.
In 1901 Hannah was running a Lodging House at 35 Arthur Street in Penrith and in 1911 had moved to Carlisle with Florence where she worked as an office caretaker. On the census of 1911 she was recorded as being a widow. She died at the Hallam Hospital in West Bromwich.
Florence Sarah Scott (3 March 1888 – 6 June 1968)
Florence was the only daughter of John and Hannah and in 1911 was working as a clerk. In 1939 she was living at 62 Tenison Road with two lodgers. Florence died at Tenison Road aged 80 years old.
