Relationship:  Parents and daughter

In 1911 Walter and Hannah were living at 27 Mill Field in Saffron Walden with their two children: Edward John (1898) and Minnie (1901). Walter was a bricklayer’s labourer and Edward was a working as a  “milk boy” after school. They also had a lodger. Walter describes the accommodation as a tenement with only four rooms, so it must have been a relief when he got a job as a plate layer on the railway and they moved to Cambridge. They lived in Great Eastern Street for a while before moving to 5 Vinery Road. Edward (known as Ted) was called up to serve in WW1 but survived the Battle of the Somme and returned to Cambridge, where he married Maud Aves in 1924 and made his home at 12 Vinery Road. Their son John moved into 37 Vinery Road in 1954. When John died in 2011 the Sell family had lived in Vinery Road for 100 years.

Ted was a keen photographer. Some of his photos are included at the bottom of this page.
