Henry Arthur Sharman (1856 – 23 February 1913)

Henry was born in Hardwick and was the son of John and Marianne Sharman.  He was baptised in Hardwick on 16th November 1856.  He married Florence Aylett in Caxton in 1886 when he was 30 years old.

Henry was a police constable and the family lived at 157 Sturton Street [at least 1891 onwards]. He was a police constable for over 27 years, and lived at Sturton Street until his death.  He died at Addenbrookes Hospital aged 57 years old.  The Cambridge Independent Press reported that despite his funeral being held on a very ‘inclement’ day nearly 1,500 people attended his funeral including the Mayor and the Police Constable.  The funeral procession was headed by the Police Band.

 

Florence Mary Sharman [nee Aylett] (14 February 1860 – 4 March 1951)

Florence was born in Hardwick, and was the daughter of David and Emma Aylett.  David Aylett was a copperlite digger [1861] who later became an agricultural labourer [1871].

She married Henry Sharman in 1866 when she was 26 years old.  They had one son – Percy Henry [1893-1960]. Florence was widowed when she was 53 years old.  She continued to live at 157 Sturton Street, She died aged 91 years old in 1951.
