Anne Maria Lucy Shrubbs  (née Yorke) (1860 – 14 January 1905)

Anne was known as Annie through her life and was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Ann (née Hare) Yorke.  Her father was a tailor and she grew up at 43 Eden Street (1861), 9 John Street (1871) and then at 20 Panton Stret (1881).  By the age of 21 she was working as a dressmaker.  She married Arthur Sidney Shrubbs (1858-1922) in 1882, and the couple had at least five children: Lilian Florence (1883-), Edith Mary (1885-1953), Charles Arthur (1888-1964), Harold Thomas (1892-1976) and Ethel Irene (1897-1984). Arthur taught botany at the University and the family lived at 39 Norwich Street (1891).  Annie died aged 44 years old.

Arthur Shrubbs married for a second time in 1910 to Pattie Young, the eldest daughter of Samuel and Martha Young.  He, Pattie and the children moved to live in Hixton and died there in 1922.
