Henry James Smith (d 1924)

Henry was born in Arrington – nine miles south west of Cambridge and was the son of James and Caroline Smith.  By the age of 15 he was working as an agricultural labourer like his father.  He married Alice Miller in 1909 and they had at least one daughter: Sylvia Grace (1910-1987).  In 1911 the family were living at 40 Eden Street and Henry was working as a brewery hand.  He died in November 1924 aged 49 years old,

Alice Sophia Smith (née Miller) (3 May 1879 – 26 January 1977)

Alice was born in Barrington and was the daughter of John and Sophia (née Christmas) Miller. Her father was a road labourer, and by the time she was 21 Alice was working as an assistant school teacher. She married when she was 30 years old. After she was widowed she ran a Lodging House at 47 Russell Street (1939). She died in Cambridge aged 97 years old.
