Walter Robert Smith (1865 – 21 November 1930)

Walter was the youngest child of tailor William Smith and his wife Ellen (1823-1895).  He grew up at 12 Eden Street and in 1891 was living there with his widowed mother.  Walter worked as a solicitor’s clerk and married Mary Disbury on 12 April 1895 at Christ Church.  The couple lived at his childhood home, 12 Eden Street and had one daughter: Ellen Mary (1896-1978). Walter died at 63 St. Andrew’s Street aged 65 years old, which was maybe his place of work.

Mary Ann Smith  (née Disbury) (21 May 1863 –  1941)

Mary was the daughter of John and Annie and was born on the Barton Road in Newnham.  Her father was a gardener and they later moved to live at 47 Castle Street (1881).  After John Disbury died in 1888 Mary and her mother lived at 5 Eden Street.  In 1891 Annie was working as a launderess and Mary was a mantle maker (dressmaker).

She was still living at 12 Eden Road in 1941, but died at the home of  her daughter and son-in-law at 91a Military Road in Colchester.
