Mary Jane Smith (née Lank) (30 March 1871 – 19 March 1917)
Mary was the daughter of George and Charlotte and was born and raised on Belgrave Road. Her father worked as a railway guard and aged 20 Mary was working as a cook for three siblings at The Lodge, on Mill Road (1891). She married Jonathan Smith (1869 -1961) the following year and they had six children: George James (1894-1935), Florence Jessie (1896-1983), Albert Edward (1897-1989), Annie Grace (1899-1973), Alfred John (1901-1901) and another as yet unidentified child.
Jonathan worked as a railway engine driver and the family lived at 31 Belgrave Road, next door to Mary’s parents who lived at number 29. In 1911 they had moved to live at number 29 and Mary died at home aged 45 years old.
