Elizabeth Spalding (c.June 1860 – 20 June 1925)

Elizabeth was the daughter of Joseph and Martha (née Barker) and was born in Swaffham Prior.  Her father was a grocer/mealman (1861) and later a farmer (1871).  Elizabeth worked as a servant and in 1881 was a housemaid/parlourmaid in London. By 1901 she was living at the Vicarage in Stroud and working as a ladies’ maid. She then returned to live with her parents at 45 Great Eastern Street (1911) and was still living there when she died in 1925.

Annie Martha Spalding (1865 – 21 January 1929)

Annie was Elizbeth’s younger sister and was also born in Swaffham Prior. Aged 25 (1891) she was living at 2 Benet Place and working as a housemaid for James and Edith Lang.  She later returned to live at 45 Great Eastern Street (by at least 1929), but died at 44 Covent Garden, which was the home of her sister Agnes.
