Monument

The headstone, in the parish area of Holy Trinity, is located four rows south of the south path and seven rows from the central path, (quite close to the south boundary wall). The grave of her husband is one row to the west.

In Loving Memory of ELLEN the beloved wife of ELIJAH TARRANT
Who passed away Sept 27th 1903 aged 67 years

Labour and sorrow ceased
And Life’s long warfare closed at last
Her soul is found in peace.”

Ellen Tarrant (née Mallyon) (c 1835 – 1903)

Ellen was born in Saffron Walden, Essex. She came to Cambridge to work and in 1861 was a house servant for William Collin and his family living on Chesterton Road. She married widower Elijah Tarrant at Cambridge register office on August 8th 1874. The couple lived at 16 Sussex Street where Ellen died 10 years before her husband.
