The kerb stones have been covered but the small slab is still visible and the metal letters intact. Located roughly seventeen rows from the central path and five monuments north of the south path.
In Loving Memory of WILLIAM HENRY THURLBORN died Oct. 30. 1942 aged 62 years.
Also of his wife ELIZABETH died Oct. 30. 1958 aged 76 years
William Henry Thurlborn (4 January 1880 – 30 October 1942)
William was the son of Joseph and Martha and was born in Swavesey. He grew up in Fordham, near Newmarket where his father worked as a railway signalman. William started working life as a railway porter and in 1901 was lodging in Whittlesey. He married Elizabeth Barrell in 1906 and they had six children: Dorothy May (1907-1994), Gladys Martha (1909-1980), William Henry Thomas (1910-1994), Reginald Frank (1912-1997), Bernard Henry Thomas (1915-1917) and Marjorie Ada Elizabeth (1920-2000). William worked as a railway shunter for Great Eastern Railway and the family lived at 25 Cyprus Road (1911), Vinery Road (at least 1917 onwards). By 1939 he was was working as a good guard and died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 62 years old.
Elizabeth Thurlborn (née Barrell) (25 February 1882 – 30 October 1958)
Elizabeth was the daughter of shoemaker Henry Barrell and Elizabeth (née Hale). She grew up at 65 Russell Street (1891) and then worked as a domestic servant at 100 Castle Street for James and Elizabeth French (1901). She died at 78 Vinery Road.
From parish burial records it is known that William and Elizabeth’s son Bernard was also buried in the Holy Trinity area of Mill Road Cemetery and is believed to have been buried in the same grave as his parents.
Bernard Henry Thomas Thurlborn (1915 -November 1917)
Bernard died at Vinery Road aged 2 years old. He was buried on 17 November 1917.
