Kate was born in King’s Lynn and was the daughter of John and Sarah (née True).  She grew up in Terrington St. John (a village between King’s Lynn and Wisbech) where her father was the station master (1861) before moving to Hitchin to work in service (1871).  Kate married William Titmuss in 1878 and they had eight children: William Goddard (179-), Walter (1881-), Alfred, Kate Louisa (1887-), George and a further three children who died as infants.
