Sarah Wade (née Linton) (30 October 1864 – 23 November 1918)

Sarah was born in Oakington and was the daughter of farmer Solomon Linton (1836-1867) and Jane (née Norman) (1830-1900). Solomon died when she was a young child and she grew up with her mother and two sisters at Station Road, Oakington.  In 1881 she was working as a housemaid to Margaret, Edith and Carey Palmer, who lived at Emmanuel House, St. Andrew’s Road, Cambridge. She later worked as a cook for Clement Drage at 59 Regent Street (1891).

Sarah married Harry Wade (1860-1925) in 1894 and they had six children: Walwin George (1894-1954), Nellie Linton (1896-1971), Mary (1897-1970), Dorothy (1900-1982), Gladys Mabel (1901-1978) and Harold Robert (1903-1969). Harry worked on the railway as a ‘parcel delivery van man’ and later as a railway shunter. The family lived at 40 Perowne Street (1901), 7 Gresham Terrace (1911) and 250 Cherry Hinton Road. Sarah died at the Fulbourn Asylum aged 54 years old and her funeral took place on 29 November.

Harry Wade died at home on 1 March 1925, of ‘carcinoma of intestines’.  According to parish burial records he was not buried with Sarah.
