Fred Warren (1874 – 14 May 1925)

Fred was the son of William and Hephzibah (née Bareford) and was born and raised at Goose Hall Cottages in Burwell. His father worked as a labourer at a chemical works and aged 17 Fred was working  as a groom. He then  moved to Cambridge to work as an railway engine stoker and lodged at 47 Union Terrace (1901) and married Ellen Barnes in 1901.  They lived at 81 Thoday Street and had at least  two children: Frederick John (1902-1983) and Christopher Edward (1908-1975).  By 1911 Fred was working as an acting train driver, and died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 51 years.

Ellen Warren (née Barnes) (6 December 1876 – 15 May 1941)

Ellen grew up at 84 Cambridge Place and was the daughter of labourer William and Rebecca Barnes.  She worked as a general servant (1891) and in 1901 was living at 17 Cranmer Road and working as a parlour maid. Ellen died at Thoday Street in 1941.
