Monument
Inscription
Annie (Nancy) White (née White) (1882 – April 1937)
Nancy was the daughter of Albert and Ellen and was born in Whittlesford. Her father was a poultry dealer and Nancy worked as a housemaid (1901/1911).
She married her cousin Charles Ralph White (known as Ralph) (1885 – 1959) at Fulbourn in September 1918. Ralph was home on leave from the front and was serving with the Royal Engineers. His three brothers were also serving the war, as were Nancy’s five brothers and between them they also had five brother-in-laws at the front, making a total of fourteen family members. Three had died by the time they married and ‘nearly all the others wounded’, so as a mark of respect the ceremony was deliberately very quiet.
Ralph worked as a clerk at the Post Office telegraph office and the couple had at least one son: Cedric Robert (1920-2001). It is believed they lived at 56 Coleridge Road and Nancy died aged 55 years old.
