Johnathan Younger (10 September 1879 – 7 November 1958)

Johnathan appears to have been known as John through his life.  He was born in Long Melford and grew up in Bridge Street in the town with his parents Robert and Ann Younger.  His father was a millers labourer, and John became a farm labourer.  He was still living at home aged 31 years old (1911).  He served in the First World War as a private in the 8th Suffolk Regiment and later in the 4th Suffolk Regiment.  He married Kate Butcher in Cambridge in 1922 when he was 43 years old.

The couple lived at Kate’s family home at 35 Kingston Street.  In 1939 John was working as a ‘coal carman’.  He died aged 79 years old.

Kate Jessie Younger (née Butcher) (6 November 1875 – 22 January 1967)

Kate was the daughter of James and Adelaide Butcher.  She was born in Cambridge and grew up at 21 Burleigh Street (1881) and then at 38 Newmarket Road (1891).  Her father James was a carpenter and joiner.  Kate remained living at home with her parents at 6 Abbey Walk (1901) and 35 Kingston Street (1911) and worked as a dressmaker.  She married John Younger when she was 47 years old.  She died aged 91 years old whilst living at 42 Argyle Street.
