Caroline Domenica Ballaster (Carrie) (26 December 1869 – 24 February 1920)
Carrie was the eldest daughter of Conrad and Caroline Ballaster. Her father was a Swiss national, and worked as a journeyman college cook. Carrie grew up at Norfolk Terrace and then lived at Engiadina Cottage, 166 Mill Road. She is not noted as having an occupation on any of the census returns and lived with her parents. She died the week before her mother at Engiadina Cottage.
Adelaide Barbala Ballaster (12 July 1874 – 27 December 1923)
Adelaide was the Carrie’s younger sister. She trained as a nurse at Her Majesty’s Hospital in Stepney. The hospital had been founded by Dr Barnardo in 1887 and was a specialist children’s hospital. In 1911 she was living in Stapleford with widow Harriott Chancellor and fellow nurse Esther Watts. She died at 2 Stockwell Street aged 49 years old.
