Robert Allen Swann Carter (28 April 1877 – 18 August 1943)

Robert was the son of George Albert Carter (1848-1895) and Eliza (née Whitehead) and grew up at 2 Swann’s Court (1881).  His father was a house decorator and his mother worked as a bedmaker at Trinity College. He married Frances Louisa Newman in 1896 and they had three children: Margaret Frances (Maggie) (1897-1975), Robert Arthur (1904-1952) and Ida May (1911-1992). Robert worked as a house painter and they lived at 8 New Court, King Street.  In 1939 he was documented as working as a house painter and decorator for the local government authority.  He died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 21 August 1943.

Robert’s brother Sidney is also buried at Mill Road Cemetery

Frances Louisa Carter  (née Newman) (21 March 1877 – 22 January  1963)

Frances was born in Old Frisby,  three miles west of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire and was the daughter of James and Emma.  By at least 1879 the family had moved to live in Milton, Cambridgeshire where James worked as a coprolite digger. Aged 14 she was living at 17 Maid’s Causeway and working as a general servant for Lodging House Keeper Annie Thompson, before marrying Robert Carter. She continued to live at 8 New Court after she was widowed and died aged 85 years old.
