Thomas worked for the railway as a porter (1881) and later as a carman (delivery driver).  In 1881 he was lodging with Samuel and Sarah Brown at 1 St. Matthew’s Buildings, Herbert Street, Cambridge. He married Harriett in 1894 and they lived at 33 Thoday Street (1901) and 7 Stockwell Street (at least 1911 onwards). Thomas died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and his funeral took place on 16 June 1924.

Harriet was born and raised in Haddenham, a village south west of Ely. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth  and her father was an agricultural labourer.  Aged 19 she was documented as  being an unemployed domestic servant (1881) and was living at home with her widowed mother in 1891, still working in service.
