Charles John Dean (22 May1861 – 15 April 1910)

Charles was born in Fen Ditton and was the son of  agricultural labourer Thomas Dean and his wife Hannah.  He married Eliza Robinson on 24 February 1881 when he was 19 years old and they went on to have three children: Alice Maud Mary (1881-1963), Charles John (1883-1954) and Albert Herbert (1885-1953).  Immediately after marriage they lived at 14 Abbey Street (1881) and then at 21 Russell Street (1891) and Charles worked as a milkman/milk seller.

By 1901 the family had moved to live at 24 Russell Street and Charles was documented as being a cab driver/groom (a hansom cab was a style of carriage, which carried typically two passengers). Also living with them was Charles’ nephew Charles Dean  who was also working as a cab driver and who would marry his cousin Alice Dean in 1910.

Charles died aged 48 years old at 24 Russell Street.

Eliza Dean (née Robinson)  (23 October 1858 – 4 March 1941)

Eliza was born in Duxford and was the daughter of David and Mary Ann (née Hagger) Robinson. She was raised in the village and her father worked as an agricultural labourer.

After she was widowed she continued to live at 24 Russell Street with Alice and son-in-law Charles.  In 1911 she was noted as being a cab proprietor, but by 1939 was documented as being incapacitated.  She died  at home aged 81 years old.
