FREDERICK HARRY the beloved son of MARIA PILGRIM
d Feb 11 1907 aged 21
Maria Pilgrim (née Rider) (1845 – 4 May 1933)
Maria was born in Little Chesterford and was baptised there on 9 November 1845. She was the daughter of John and Esther and grew up in the village where her father was an agricultural labourer. She married Owen Pilgrim in 1871 and they went to live at 3 Clement Place (1871/1881). They had eight children: Willie Owen (1879-1939), Elizabeth (1883-), Frederick Harry (2885-1907), Ellen (Nellie) (1889-1968) and four more children who died as infants.
Owen worked as a billiard marker early in their marriage, but by 1891 had become a house painter. He also worked as a college servant (1901), and Maria was a college bedmaker. The family later moved to live at 15 Willow Walk (at least 1903 onwards) where Maria died aged 88 years old.
Frederick Harry Pilgrim (1885 – 11 February 1907)
In 1901, fifteen year old Frederick was living at home with his parents and working at the theatre. He died at 15 Willow Walk aged 21 years old.
From parish burial records it is known that Owen Pilgrim was also buried at Mill Road Cemetery and is thought to have been buried in the same grave
Owen Pilgrim (1848 – November 1932)
Owen was born in Great Chesterford and was the son of John Samson Pilgrim and Elizabeth (née Kemp). He was baptised on 9 July 1848 at All Saints’ Church, Great Chesterford. He grew up at 11 London Road, and aged 12 was working as an agricultural labourer, like his father (1861). He died at Willow Walk and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 1 December 1932.
