Frederick Pratt (1852 – 26 January 1923)
Frederick was the son of Henry and Mary Ann (nee Evans) and grew up 11 Shelley Row (1861). Henry Pratt was a shoemaker and Frederick worked as a painter/decorator. He married Esther Palmer in 1878 and they had five children: Lilian (1879-1964), Violet (1882-), Mabel Esther (1885-1972), Ethel (1889-1951) and Frederick Thomas (1890-1891). The family lived in Esther’s home town of Soham (1881) and then at 4 Johns Street (1891),65 King Street (1901), 98 King Street (1911 onwards). Frederick Pratt died at King Street and was buried on 31 January 1923.
Esther Pratt (nee Palmer) (13 January 1851 – 14 January 1945)
Esther was born in Soham and was the daughter of Thomas and Esther Palmer. Her father was a blacksmith and she grew up at Clay Street (1851), Butcher’s Causeway (1861) and Red Lion Square (1881). Before her marriage to Frederick Pratt Esther worked as a dressmaker. After she was widowed she continued to live at 98 King Street and in 1939 was living there wtih daughters Mabel and Lilian. She died at home the day after her 94th birthday, however her record of death states she was 95 years old, and her grave monument that she was 96 years old.
