David Self (1845 – 20 October 1883)

Born in the village of South Lopham, near Bressingham, Norfolk, David was the son of David and Eunice (née Brock). His father was a handloom weaver, and aged 15 David (Jnr) was working as an agricultural labourer. He married Mary and they had at least five children: Annie Maria (1871-1951), Abigail Hannah Brock  (1872-1889), Arthur William (1874-1940), Ellen Eunice (Nellie) (1877-1955) and Henry James (Harry) (1879-1949).  In 1871 David and Mary were living at 5 Burleigh Place, Cambridge and he was documented as being a coprolite digger. The family later  lived at Norfolk Terrace (1877) and 1 & 2 Tabernacle Row, Sun Street (at least 1879 onwards). In 1881 he was working as a cellarman and died aged 38 years old.

Mary Ann Self (1840 – 8 May 1909)

Mary was born in Bradford, but little is known of her early life. She continued to live at Tabernacle Row with her children after being widowed and in 1891 was documented as as chapel keeper. By 1901 she was living at 23 Paradise Street with daughter Nellie and was records as ‘living on own means’.

Abigail Hannah Brock Self (1872 – 25 September 1889)

Abigail was baptised on 13 February 1873 at the Primative Methodist Chapel and died at Tabernacle Row aged 16.
