The boys were sons of Arthur and Sarah Anne (née Haylock) Shanks. The couple were both from the village of Withersfield, Suffolk and married in 1894. They had five children, of whom Victor was the 2nd and Arthur the 4th. The couple started married life in Withersfield, but had moved to Cambridge by the time Victor was born and lived at 19 Kingston Street (1901), 324 Mill Road (1911) and 26 Sturton Street (at least 1919 to 1923). Arthur worked as a carpenter for a building company, and by 1939 the couple had retired to live at 131 Cambridge Road, Great Shelford with their daughter Grace. Arthur died in 1941, and Sarah in 1954.
Victor Albert Shanks (1897 – 15 May 1905)
Victor died at the Sanitorium aged 7 years old.
Arthur Edward Shanks (1902 – 20 February 1921)
Arthur died at 26 Sturton Street just before his 19th birthday.
