Harry Holt Smith (12 October 1885 – 10 September 1886)

Harry was the son of William H C Smith and his wife Elizabeth Jane (née Holt).  He died just before his first birthday.

Albert Wallis Smith (20 March 1889 – 20 August 1889)

Albert was the youngest son of William and Elizabeth Smith.

William Henry Chappel Smith (11 November 1845 – 27 May 1930)

William was the eldest son of Chappel Brand and Jane Harriet (née Dimmock) Smith and was baptised on 7 December 1845.  Chappel was a hosier with a shop at 18 Market Street and by the age of 15 William was assisting in the business.  He married Elizabeth Jane Holt (1847-1892) on 7 April 1870 and they had at least ten children: William Sidney Ernest (1871-1935), Emily Annie (1873-1949), Arthur Frederick (1874-1918), Edith Mary (1876-1955), Clara Jane (1878-1949), Reginald Holt (1882-1917),  Harry Holt (1885-1886), Ethel Holt (1885-1922), Archibald Holt (1887-1918) and Albert Wallis (1889-1889).

The couple lived at 13 Clarendon Street, and then at 13 Market Street where William ran a draper’s shop.  After he was widowed he lived with his daughters Emily, Edith and Ethel at Market Street and was helped in the business by his son Archie (1911).  William died at Market Street aged 84 years old. He left an estate valued at £7,457 13s and 11d (c.£350,000 at 2018 values).
