In Loving Memory of MARY ANN VARDEN [–] ——— Nov 1889
Mary Ann Varden (née Kent) (25 April 1807 – 21 November 1889)
Mary was born in East Dereham, Norfolk and was baptised there on 27 April 1807. She was the daughter of John Bayfield Kent (1778-1823) and Martha (née Allen)(1778-1856) and married William Varden (1805-1829) in East Dereham on 1 November 1829. William was a tailor and the couple had at least five children: Rev. George (1830-1917), Martha (1832-1833), Martha (1834-1914), William (1836-1912) and John (1844-1906). Mary was widowed in February 1879 and is believed to have moved to Cambridge to live with daughter Martha and son in law James Norton. James worked as a railway district superintendant for Great Eastern Railway. Mary died at 1 Beaconsfield Villas, Mill Road aged 82 years old.
