Rosetta Ann Browne (née Cockle)(1842- 11 February 1920)

Rosetta was the daughter of farmer Thomas Cockle and his wife Rebecca (née Gooby) and was born in the hamlet of Hillrow, near Haddenham south west of Ely.  She was baptised in Haddenham on 9 October 1842 and married John Browne at the same place on 13 December 1864. When they married John was a farmer of 140 acres and they lived at East End in Earith, Huntingdonshire  (1871). The couple had six children: Rosetta Earl (Rose) (1865-1933), Frederick Earl (Fred)  (1866-1959), Emily (1868-1940), Minnie Cockle (1869-1956), Henry John (Jack)  (1872-1955) and Kate Ellen (1874-1957). By 1881 the family had moved to the Hopbine, 11 Fair Street in Cambridge where John was a publican and commission agent.  They later moved to 159 Sturton Street (1891/1901) where he was documented as being a corn/hay and general agent. In 1911 John and Rosetta were living at 24 Riverside with youngest daughter Kate, and Rosetta died at home at the age of 77.  Her funeral took place on 14 February 1920.

John Aaron Browne (1840 – 5 December 1936)

John was born in Bluntisham cum Earith and baptised there on 17 May 1840. He was the son of John Aaron Browne and Anna (née Earl), grandson of Thomas and Ann (née Carter) Earl. His father was a farmer in Earith, and John took over the running of the farm when his father died in 1857. He continued to live at 24 Riverside after the death of Rosetta and died at the ageof 96 years.

Miriam Elizabeth Browne ( 1848 – 21 August 1869)

Miariam was John Browne’s sister and was also born in Earith. She moved to Cambridge with her mother Anna to live at 19 Hills Road and died there aged 20 years old. Notices of her death in local newspapers read ‘much respected by all who knew her’.

Rosetta (Rose)  Earl Browne (1865 – 28 January 1933)

Rose was the eldest daughter of John and Rosetta Browne and was baptised in Bluntisham cum Earith on 15 November 1865. In 1901 she was working as a cook for Charles and Emily Booth in Maida Vale, London.  She moved with the Booths to live at the Old Manor House, Northgate near Margate (1911) where she was documented as being a parlourmaid. Rose died at Addenbrookes Hospital aged 67 years old.
