Ernest Temperley was born to Thomas Cram Temperley and Louise M. Stocks on 8 March 1849, and attended Newcastle Grammar School then Thornbury Grammar School in Gloucestershire. He came up to Queens’ College in October 1867 and graduated Fourth Wrangler in 1871. As an undergraduate and for a time thereafter he was a keen oarsman.
Marion Tottenham (d 1900)
Ernest Temperley married Marion Wildman in 1875 and the couple had four children. After Ernest’s death, she married Harry Rede Tottenham, Fellow of St John’s College, on 21 November 1891. She died in June 1900 and was buried in this grave with Temperley on 28 June of that year.
