Monument

The monument in January 2023.

This red marble cruciform coped stone lies 8 rows east of the west wall and 3 monuments north of the north pathing the area of All saints parish that runs along the north wall. Is in very good condition. The inscriptions are complete. This area was cleared in 2023 but the bramble has now grow up again and most of the monuments are hidden from view.

In Loving Memory of LOUISA F. M. SYMONDS beloved wife of JOHN SYMONDS who died October 25, 1928, aged 59 years.

Louisa Florence Minnie Symonds (née Fridd) (1869 – 25 October  1928)

Louisa was born in Bethersden, near Ashford in Kent. She was the daughter of James and Caroline and was born at Bridge Farm where her father farmed 130 acres and employed 5 men.  He died in June 1875 when Louisa was c.6 years old and she was then raised at 32 Park Road in Ashford with her widowed mother and sister Alice.  She married John Symonds in Tonbridge, Kent in 1892 when she was 23 years old and they had one daughter: May Acacy Fridd (1895-1983).

John was a harness maker/farrier and they lived in Willesden, London (1901) before retiring to live at 21 Tenison Avenue (1911 to at least 1920).  Louisa died at their home at  41 St. Barnabas Road aged 59 years old.

John Symonds (1859 – 13 June 1938)

John was born in Barnham, just south of Thetford in Suffolk and married Louisa when he was c.33 years old.  After he was widowed he continued to live at 41 St. Barnabas Road until at least 1935, and died at the home of his daughter May which was at 31 Milton Road. He was 79 years old. He died leaving an estate valued at £31,653, 15s and 2d (c.£1.5m at 2019 values).
