John Higgins Allen (9 August 1841 – 25 June 1917)

John was born in London and was the son of John and Harriet Higgins.  His father was a Mathematical lecturer at Kings College London, who later became Vicar of Prees, Shropshire [1846-1883].  John Higgins [Jnr]  went to Eton, and then up to Trinity College Cambridge like his father.  He obtained his BA in 1864 and MA in 1867 and was called to the Bar in 1866.

He was the 1st Clerk to the Charity Commission from 1875 – 1907. He lived and worked in London, living in Westminster [1871] and then 5 Durham Place, Chelsea [1891].  He married on 16th August 1894 at the age of 53 to Elizabeth Rose Walker.  They continued to live at 5 Durham Place before retiring to 48 Lensfield Road, Cambridge.  He died at Lensfield Road in 1917 leaving effects of £29,393.

 

Elizabeth Rose Allen [nee Walker] (c1854 – 24 May 1915)

Elizabeth was born in Manchester and was the daughter of William Walker. She married John Higgins at Christ Church, Sutton, Surrey in 1894 when she was 40 years old.  She died at 48 Lensfield Road, Cambridge, aged 61 years old.
