Thomas Allen (21.12.1816 – 28 October 1881)
Thomas was born in St Edwards Passage, Cambridge to William & Jane Allen. William was a tailor. He married Jane Chpman in 1839 we do not know where they were living in 1841 In 1843 In 1851 aged 36 he was living at 38 Hyde Park Corner [the nick name for the junction between Hills Road and Regent Street] and working as a tailor and robemaker. He was still working as a tailor in 1861, but by 1871 was living at 44 Regent Street and working as a wheelwrights man. By 1881 he was living at 49 Regent Street and had returned to be a tailor. He died aged 66 years in October 1881.
Jane Allen née Chapman (1812- 22 July 1897)
Jane was the daughter of Haslingfield farmer Thomas Chapman and his wife Susanna. As she was baptised on January 1st 1813 she was most likely born in 1812. Banns were read at St Michaels Church Cambridge in 1838 for her marriage to Thomas Allen, but for whatever reason the wedding was postponed till July 5th 1839 and took place at Cambridge Registry Office. They did not have any children. After the death of her husband Jane continued to live at 49 Regent Street and worked as a lodging house keeper. She died in 1897 aged 84 years old.
