Thomas went on to marry Gertrude Ellen Richardson, who was Sidney’s younger sister, in 1913 in Cambridge. The couple lived at 145 Stanley Road, Cambridge.

Thomas enlisted in Cambridge as Private (3397) in B Company, the 1st Battalion, the Cambridgeshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 6 December 1916 in Devonport Military Hospital, Plymouth, Devon, and was buried in Mill Road Cemetery on 9 December.
