Inscription

In Loving Memory of our dear mother PHOEBE ANN CAMPS.
Who was called to rest July 24. 1897 aged 52 years.
“Come unto me all ye who are weary and I will give you rest.”

Phoebe Ann Camps (1846 – 24 July 1897)

Phoebe was born in Waterbeach, the daughter of William and Maria Ann Camps.  William was an agricultural labourer. In 1861 aged 15 she was working as a servant at Chittering Farm in Stretham.  By the age of 25 in 1871 she had moved to Sturton Street and was working as a needlewoman and had a daughter Alice Rebecca Camps (b 1870).  In 1881 she was still living in Sturton Street, working as a dressmaker and by this time had two more children: William  John (b 1872) and Edward Charles (1878-1953).

The 1891 census shows her living at 11 Norfolk Terrace, and she describes herself as a widow.  She was living there with her three children and a lodger who was working on the railway.  She died in 1897.
