Monument
Located to the east of the central path roughly a quarter of the way towards the east path and close to the southern boundary of the parish of Andrew the Less. This coped stone has not sunk and the engraved inscriptions are still visible in good light. The detailing of the cross is still clear. The end decoration which appear to show a set of calipers may be significant.

Charles Haslop (1 January 1818 – 21 August 1881)
Charles was the second son of John Spencer Haslop (1789- 1867) and Elizabeth Agnes (nee Bride) (1788-1866) and was baptised on 11 January 1818. His father was a printer, who worked for the Cambridge Chronicle for over 50 years and Charles also worked as a printer throughout his life, also for the same newspaper. He married Charlotte Phillips on 14 October 1845 and the couple lived at 6 Clarendon Street.
In June 1881 Charles was admitted to Addenbrooke’s hospital suffering from gout and an inflamed leg. He stayed in hospital for a month, and was discharged in early July. He committed suicide in Grantchester, and the inquest heard that he had been in ‘low spirits’ and had been observed looking ‘very much pre-occupied and depressed…a depression appeared to settle upon him when he came out the Hospital’. He was found crawling out of the River Cam at Grantchester, bleeding profusely and died on the river bank. The jury returned a verdict of ‘suicide while in a state of temporary insanity’. His funeral was held on 25 August, and it is not known why a different date was used on the grave monument.
Charlotte Wilson Haslop (nee Phillips) (c.1819 – 4 March 1889)
Charlotte is believed to have been the daughter of William and Mary Ann Phillips and married Charles Haslop when she was c.26 years old. Charlotte died aged 70 years old and her funeral was held on 7 March. It is knot known why her age is given as 80 years old on the grave monument.
