Robert Edwards (January 1852 – 17 April 1914)
Robert was the son of James and Eliza Edwards and was baptised at St. Paul’s Church on 2 March 1852. He grew up on Princes Street and James Edward worked as a plumber/glazier. Robert married Jane Selkirk in 1880 when he was 28 years old and they went to live at 27 Emery Street where they lived until their deaths. Robert worked as a bank clerk, and was widowed when he was 44 years old. He then lived at Emery Street with his sister Sarah Ann (1846-1912) and servant Maggie Bailey. He died at home aged 62 years old.
Jane Davidson Edwards (née Selkirk) (1856 – 30 May 1896)
Jane was born in Stratford, Essex and baptised at St. John’s Church, Stratford on 31 August 1856. She was the daughter of carpenter John Selkirk and his wife Martha (née Wardle). Her father died when she was c.7 years old and she grew up at the Great Norther Hotel on Hills Road with her mother and stepfather Martin Burn. She married aged 24 years old and died aged 39 years old.
Margaret (Maggie) Bailey (1883 – 1944)
Very little is known of Maggie’s life. She was working as a domestic servant/companion to Robert Edwards and his sister Sarah in 1901/1911. She did not marry and died aged 61 years old.
