Although broken, the pieces of the Barnes monument lie within the grave set, which is located in the parish area of St Mary the Great.
Inscription
‘In Memory of my dearly beloved wife Sarah Barnes
Who peacefully passed away April 14 1925 aged 70
“Blessed are the meek
For they shall inherit the earth”
Also Benjamin Barnes died May 25 1940 aged 89

Sarah Barnes (née Saich) (1852 – 4 April 1925)
Sarah was born in Southwark in London and was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Saich. She grew up at 11 Castle Street in Southwark, and her father worked as a watchman. She married Benjamin Barnes at St Saviour’s Church in Southwark on 14 April 1879. They had four daughters: Florence (1880-), Helen M (1881-1951), Ethel Sarah (1884-1952) and Beatrice May (1885-1970).
The couple moved to Cambridge soon after they were married, and all their children were born in Cambridge. Benjamin was a carpenter and joiner and they lived at 1 Bentinck Street (1881), Ivy House Sedgwick Street (at least 1888-1896), 6 Elm Terrace Panton Street (at last 1908-1915) and then at 70 Panton Street. Sarah died at 70 Panton Street and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 9 April 1925.
Benjamin Barnes (26 February 1851 – 25 May 1940)
Benjamin was born at 11 Townsend Yard in Southwark. He was the son of labourer James Moore Barnes and his wife Ann. Benjamin was baptised at St. Saviour’s Church on 18 May 1851. He married when he was 28 years old. He died at 70 Panton Street aged 89 years old.
Ethel Sarah Barnes (1883 – 8 December 1952)
Ethel was the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Barnes. She lived at home with her parents, and continued to live at 70 Panton Street after the death of her father. She died aged 69 years old at home.
