Cecilia Bernard (1827 – 3 December 1891)
Cecilia was the daughter of Herman Hedwig and Sylphia Bernard, and was born in Prussia. Herman Bernard [1785-1857] was a teacher of Hebrew who moved to Cambridge in the 1830’s. In 1851 Cecilia was living with her mother on Parker Street in Cambridge. In 1861 the widowed Sylvia Herman was living with her daughter at 2 Alma Terrace, just off Parkers Piece and Cecilia was working as a governess in that year.
When her mother died in 1871, Cecilia continued to live at Alma Terrace with her sisters and a servant [1871/1881]. By 1891 the sisters had moved to 6 Mortimer Road. just off Mill Road. Cecilia died there in December 1891 aged 72 years old.
Annie Bernard (c.1831 – 5 January 1892)
Annie was the youngest daughter of Herman and Sylphia Bernard and was also born in Prussia. She lived at Alma Terrace, and then 6 Mortimer Road. She died a month after her Cecilia in January 1892.
Rosalie Bernard (1814 – 4 January 1896)
Rosalie was the eldest daughter of Herman and Sylphia Bernard – and was also born in Prussia! After both of her sisters died she continued to live at 6 Mortimer Road, but died at Cromwell House, Huntingdon, home of her sister in law Mary Jane Bernard [widow of Captain Isaac Bernard].
After Rosalie’s death two poperties were sold at auction by direction of the executors of her will – 6 Mortimer Road, and also 2 Scroope Terrace, Trumpington Road. Mortimer Road was said to be a ‘desirable semi-detached residence, containing 2 Reception and 6 bedrooms. Held on lease for a term of 40 years from 25 March 1879…at the low annual ground rent of £1, 6s 3d’. ” Scroope Terrace is thought to have been where her father lived and consisted of ‘a desirable dwelling house, containing 3 Reception and 7 bedrooms. Held on lease of Gonville and Caius College for a term of 40 years from Michaelmas 1881 at an annual ground rent and aquittance of £21, 5s 0d’.
