Harry Riley Bolton (24 January 1862 – 27 July 1915)
Harry was born in Colne, Lancashire and baptised there on 29 March 1862. He was the son of school teachers James and Sarah (née Matthews). His mother had been born in Cambridge and aged 17 Harry was living at 17 Eastbourne Terrace with his aunt and uncle – William and Annie Austin. William was a coal merchant and Harry worked as a clerk in the business. By 1891 he had returned to live in the North West and was working as a carman (delivery driver) for a baker’s in Gorton, Manchester.
He then moved to Stevenage working as a coal merchant (1901) and married Emily Hyde in 1904 in Norfolk. By 1911 the couple had moved to live at 29 Tenison Road. Harry worked as a partner in his uncle’s company Messrs. Austin & Co who were based at 30b St. Andrew’s Street and the L and N.W.R. coal yard. By 1915 Harry and Emily had moved to 98 Victoria Road and he died there aged 52 years old.
Emily Bolton (née Hyde) (c.1868 – 6 February 1939)
Little is known of Emily’s early life and she is believed to have been born in Worboys, Huntingdonshire. She died at The Cottage, 78 Cherry Hinton Road aged 78 and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 10 February.
