Newspaper advert July 1840

Thomas was born in Hardwick and baptised  there on 19 March 1780. He was the son of Thomas and Sarah and married Elizabeth Greaves on 6 April 1815. They had at least two children: Anne (1816-1895) and William (1818-1904). Thomas was a grocer and tea dealer and traded from Bridge Street (1841) and later 57 Sidney Street (1851).  The shop sold specialist teas such as ‘sound congou, strong rough congou, strong young hyson, fine gunpowder and cowslip hyson’. They also sold coffee, ‘raw, refined and crystalized sugars’, cheddars and ‘finest bath bacon’. Thomas died at Sidney Street of paralysis and notices of his death in local newspapers said ‘the deceased was hearty and well on the Thursday morning previous’.

The business was later run by his son William Bond.

Elizabeth Bond (née Greaves) (1781-31 December 1859)

Elizabeth was born in Royston and died at Sidney Street aged  78 years old. Her funeral took place on 5 January 1860.
