This headstone is located 1 row east of the central path in the parish of Mary the Great. Although the carved inscription for Charles is still clear, Rachels has faded badly

Charles Benjamin Briggs (c.1806 – 28 July 1882)
Charles was born in Cambridge and married Rachel Pitchford on 8 August 1833 at Great St. Mary’s Church. He had a shop at 32, Petty Cury and was a hairdresser (1841), tabacconist (1851), tabacconist and perfumerer (1861). By 1871 the tabacconist shop had moved to 1 St. Mary’s Passage and it is known that Charles also sold life assurance and fishing tackle at various times. The couple did not have any children but took in lodgers and also cared for their nephew. Charles died at St. Mary’s Passage aged 76 years old.
Rachel Briggs (née Pitchford) (1808 – 6 June 1906)
Rachel was born in Soham and after she was widowed went to live at 30 Melbourne Place (until at least 1896) and then lodged at 19 Maid’s Causeway. She died aged 98 years old.
