Bessie Brown (née Hudson) (c.1863 – June  1926)

Bessie was born in Long Stratton, Norfolk and was the daughter of postman/messenger Frederick Hudson.  Aged 18 she was working as a housemaid for Frederick and Anne Priest at Heigham Grove, Norwich. She married Fred Brown at St. Stephen’s Church, Norwich on 31 March 1890 and they had five children, all of whom were born in Cambridge: Mabel Bessie (1891-1985), Ida Blanche (1892-1977), Bertha Constance (1894-), Florence Irene (1906-1953) and one other child who died as an infant. Fred worked as a bricklayer and the family lived at Argyle Quadrant, 35 Argyle Steet. Bessie died at home and was buried on 26 June 1926.

Frederick (Fred) Brown (1863 – 28 June  1943)

Fred was born and raised in Isleham and was the son of labourer William Brown and Sarah Ann. Aged 18 he was working as a shepherd, but was later a bricklayer. He died at 35 Argyle Street aged 80 years old.
