Harriet Burwood (née Bye) (1832 – 5 October 1894)

Harriet was born in Westleton, near the Suffolk Coast and was baptised there on 23 October 1831. She worked in Beccles as a domestic servant before marrying Benjamin Burwood (1829-1872)  on 1 June 1856 in Great Yarmouth. Benjamin was a lapidary (gem cutter) and the couple had at least six children: Edward (1857-1920), Ellen (1859-1931), William Henry (1861-1871), Esther Harriet (1865-), Minnie (1868-1869) and Annie (known as Minnie) (1871-1917). Benjamin died in June 1872 and was buried in Great Yarmouth. Harriet continued to live in Yarmouth until at least 1891 and was documented as being a lapidary in her own right, assisted by daughter Minnie. She died at 31 Lyndwode Road, the home of daughter Ellen and her husband James Henry Friend, who was a solicitor’s managing clerk.

Annie (Minnie) Burwood (22 February 1871 – 30 November 1917)

Minnie was the youngest child of Benjamin and Harriet and was baptised on 22 March 1871. She worked as a lapidary assistant to her mother and then lived at 31 Lyndwode Road with her sister and brother in law. She died at Lyndwode Road aged 46 years old.
