Maria Chandler (née Harrod) (24 July 1822 – 26 April 1880)

Maria was born in Thorpe, Norwich and baptised at St. Helen’s Church on 18 August 1822. She was the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (née Spunner) Harrod (also sometimes spelt Herod) and her father was a husbandman (farmer). She married John Chandler in Thorpe on 29 September 1844 and they had at least five children: Sarah (1844-), John (1848-1915), Emma (1848-1912), Maria (1850-1931) and Eliza (1852-1926). John worked on the railway and they started married life in Swainsthorpe, Norwich where he was a platelayer (1851). He was  promoted to  permanent way inspector(someone with the responsibility for the condition of the railway track and embankments on a designated area and who would usually make physical inspections on a push trolley).  The family moved to Shenfield, Essex (1861), Chigwell (1871) and Cambridge. Maria died at Mill Road aged 57 years old and her funeral took place on 30 April.

John Chandler (1820 – 12 June 1900)

John was born in Woolhampton, a village between Reading and Newbury in Berkshire and was the son of John. After he was widowed he lived in Cambridge with daughters Maria and Eliza and had retired by 1891. He died at 111 Mill Road in 1900.

Eliza Chandler (1852 – 13 November 1926)

Eliza was born in Norwich and baptised there on 18 January 1852. After her parents deaths she lived with her sister Maria at 36a Norwich Street (1901) and 94 Norwich Street (1911). Eliza died at Norwich Street and her funeral took place on 16 November at Mill Road Cemetery.

Maria Chandler (1850 – 28 June 1931)

Maria was baptised in Thorpe, Norwich on 22 September 1850 and died in Clitheroe. It is thought Maria was in Clitheroe visiting her niece Ethel Carr Airey (née Brown), who lived at The Grange, Clitheroe with her husband Henry.
