Inscription
In Memory of HANNAH CHAPMAN died June 9 1944 age 73
Hannah Chapman (12 January 1871 – 9 June 1944)
Hannah was the daughter of Francis and Sarah (née Rothwell) and was baptised at the Primitive Methodist Chapel on 14 February 1871. She was born at 177 Sturton Street and Francis Chapman worked as a railway porter and later as a general labourer. Sarah Chapman died in 1877 and Hannah then lived with her widowed father and siblings before he married Jane Fordham in 1884.
Hannah worked as a servant/housekeeper and in 1891 was working for the Macintosh family at 11 Bateman Street. She later worked as a monthly nurse for the Smith family on Devonshire Road (1901) and in 1911 was living with her brother Herbert at 49 Jesus Lane and still working as a nurse. By 1939 she was living at 66 Jesus Lane and was housekeeper for widower William Cherry Anstee. William died in January 1942, and it is not known where Hannah then lived. She died in Cambridge aged 73 years.
