Kate Naomi Collings (née Stinton) (18 May 1879 – 4 March 1966)
Kate was born in Horseheath and was the daughter of George and Jane (née Bowers) Stinton. Her father worked as a groom and she grew up in Horseheath (1881) and then Balsham (1891). She married Sidney Collings in 1904 and the couple had at least seven children: Ida Frances (1906-1908), Kathleen Orpha (1907-1958), Matilda Maud (1911-1983), Sidney Alexander (1914-1986), Frank Bowen (1916-1961), Clifford Stanley (1919-1998) and Eileen Pearl (1928-2000). Stanley worked for Great Eastern Railway as a blacksmith’s striker in the Engineering department and the family lived at 13 Romsey Terrace on Mill Road.
Kate was widowed in 1936, and in 1939 was still living at Romsey Terrace with youngest children Clifford and Eileen. She later moved to 14 Victoria Street (1945/1950) and died aged 86 years old.
Sidney Joseph Collings (1878 – 12 February 1936)
Sidney was the son of Edward and Frances (née May) Collings. His father was a waiter and in 1881 the family were living at 29 Gold Street. Edward Collings died in 1890 and by the age of 14 (1891) Sidney was working as a page boy, and living in Guildhall Place with his widowed mother and siblings. By 1901 Frances and Sidney were living at 14 Orchard Street, and he was working as a labourer. He died aged 58 years old.
Roger Anthony Hawkes (1951 – 19 January 1962)
Roger was the son of Anthony Edmund and Eileen Pearl (née Collings) Hawkes and grandson of Sidney and Kate Collings. He died aged 10 years old.
